The Las Angeles Clippers hosted the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday at the staples Center in LA. The game featured last years champs against an up-and-coming Clippers team that has quickly become a team all eyes are watching in the NBA community. The Clippers came into the game 7-4 and were looking to get within a game of first place while Dallas came into the game at 8-6 on the year. In the end some 3 point specialist provided an exciting finish while both teams shot well from the floor.
Dallas was led by the veteran leader Dirk Nowitski who scored 17 and added 7 rebounds. West also added 17 points, of his own, and Shaun Marion got a double-double by scoring 12 points and collecting 10 rebounds. As a team, Dallas shot 42% and were an amazing 45% successful from 3-point territory. No three was bigger then that hit by Jason Terry, which put Dallas up by a point with 4 seconds left to play. The Clippers were just as good shooting from the field, though, and did not care to let this important game slip through their hands.
As a team, the Clippers also shot 42% from the field. Their leading scorer was Williams who scored 26 in the contest. Clipper star Blake Griffin had a mild, but complete, game scoring 14 points and collecting 17 rebounds while adding 7 assist nearly missing a triple-double. No player stepped up as big as Chauncy Billips however. Billips scored 21 in the game and with 4 seconds left on the clock, after Terry’s go-ahead three, hit a game winning 3 point shot of his own to put the Clippers up 91-89. That would end up being the final score as the Mavericks were unable to get a bucket with just one second left on the clock after Billips shot.
The win now has the Clippers just .5 games back in the division and should provide a good experience to look back on as they try and continue building momentum into the season.
