A day after the Dodgers blanked them, the Angels answer back with an impressive 7-1 victory at home. The Angels were good on offense and Pitched great to hold on and get the victory. The win improved their record to 43-41 on the year, and was done at home where they have struggled. In all, this season, the Angels have won just 19 of their games played at home.
The Angels had 10 hits in all on the day and had back-to-back 3-run innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Vernon wells hit his 11thhomerun of the season to help out a solid pitching performance. Jered Weaver who won his tenth game of the year did the pitching. His performance was dominating throughout, and he recorded 8 strikeouts that helped mightily in the game.
The dodgers struggled on both sides of the ball. They were only able to muster their one run from 5 total hits. Clayton Kershaw came into the game with 8 wins, but recorded his fourth loss of the year mainly due to bad pitching in the bottom of the 3rd. The dodgers also had two fielding errors on the day, which added to their troubles. The loss brought the Dodgers record to 37-47.
The two teams will close out the series on July 3rd at 8:00 PM ET. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. The two pitchers set to start, for the LA teams, are Chad Billingsley for the Dodgers and Ervin Santana for the Angels. Billingsley is 7-6 with a 4.22 ERA this year. Santana has just 3 wins to 8 losses this year and carries a 4.08 ERA into the game. So far the two still have a lot to play for as the Angels want to improve their record and get well above 500, while the Dodgers want to play respectable baseball to try and take pressure off of their off field financial issues.
